Direct to Metal Laser Sintering
CPM Fastools utilizes state of the art manufacturing processes
to generate injection molding inserts and metal parts.
Known by names such as Solid freeform fabrication (SFF), Direct to Metal
Laser Sintering (DMLS), E-manufacturing and Additive Manufacturing it all
revolves around a laser firing into a layer of powdered metal guided by a
computer program. The machine creates its own Nitrogen atmosphere ensuring
no oxidation in or on the final part.
No post processing is required although CPM Fastools has found an amazing
increase in wear resistance and tool life through cryogenic
processing of the sintered part. One of the major benefits
to the direct metal process is the ability to incorporate all features that
would normally require multiple machining steps or electro discharge
machining.
Items such as conformal waterlines, ejector pins and tunnel gates are
built into the insert during the forming process. Another benefit
is the ability to vary the density of the inserts thus creating porous venting
areas, especially helpful in thin wall molding or over-molding
applications.
